March 30, 2024TLDR; wish it could go 25 when I don't have cargo, slight speed wobbles with weight on back but manageable with both hands on, plenty of hill climbing power but be aware the torque sensor wants some effort on your part.
I have been searching and saving for a car replacement type E-bike for well over a year and finally pulled the trigger. The Abound is a solid bike and probably the most premium budget cargo E-bike out there. Plenty of power, strong frame, torque sensor gives it that real premium feel. It's fun, with a lot of cargo options.
Height adjustability is pretty impressive. This bike fits my 5'0" tall wife well and fits me (6'4") almost perfect. If the seat post had another inch it would be perfect but there are aftermarket dropper telescoping seatposts that are longer that I will get at some point. Regardless, very functional as a family vehicle.
Downsides are the bike does get speed wobbles especially when loaded up with weight on the back. Not an issue with two hands on the bike, but something to be aware of. I also wouldn't mind the ability to go 25 mph. In America it's near impossible to avoid booking with traffic from time to time. Being able to go street speeds would be nice in certain situations. Although with cargo, especially a passenger, I definitely wouldn't want to go much past 20.
I also got an error 21 on day 4, after riding in some light rain the night before. But later that day and ever since no issues. Hoping the issue resolved itself.
Using for smaller adult passengers (wife and teens), grocery getter, and as a commuter. It's a bit slow and bulky for a commuter, and there aren't any accessories specifically designed for older kids or adult passengers but I'm considering ditching one of our cars because of the capabilities of this bike.
Designed to protect your kids!

July 29, 2024I don't usually write reviews, but I felt that the Aventon engineers deserved it after my stumble today. I had been told that the Aventon Abound is strictly a pavement bike and I was mindful of that as I towed my 2 small kids in the cargo space today. However, when riding on the walking/bike path, I had to swerve onto grass to avoid a walker; I was going about 10 mph at the time. When I tried to swerve back onto the pavement, the side of my back tire caught the side of the pavement where it meets the grass. The back tire lost traction and the bike fell to one side with the 3 of us. Fortunately, we only sustained minor scrapes; the bike accessories took 95% of the hit. Upon inspection, I realized how bad it could have been: there were long scrapes on the footrest, kids handrail, and bike pedal...the rest of the bike was completely undamaged. The design of these accessories protected both my kids and the bike itself. Please pass along my thanks to your engineers.
Extra kudos goes out to those who designed the double handrail. I had taught my kids to only use the inner handrail for safety. The outer handrail took almost all the damage and protected my kids hands from what could have been some serious injuries. Not all cargo bikes have double handrail design; now I know they all should.
Thanks again Aventon!
No issues AT ALL - Love the bike!

August 12, 2024The bike rides great out of the box. My husband had it put together in just a few minutes. Some people complained about wobbly steering, flat tires, squeaky breaks and broken spokes and I am here to say I’ve had none of those issues and actually nothing bad to report at all! I am so happy with it. The only things I’ve upgraded was the bike seat and handlebars but those were just personal preference. I got a more swept back handlebar and a cushier seat. I’ve put over 250 miles on it in just over a month. I use it mostly for joy riding with my 1 year old. But I ride it daily. It’s been such a great way to get out and get a little bit of exercise. I had a non electric cruiser bike before but didn’t use it as much because I didn’t always feel like putting in a lot of effort. I love that even if I don’t feel particularly good I can still go out for a ride and let the motor do most of the work, or I can put it in eco and get a workout. I love the torque sensor as it’s a much nicer and normal feeling for biking than a cadence sensor. The battery lasts me quite a few rides but I haven’t used it past 30% charge just to be safe! I looked at ALL the other cargo e-bike options in depth, and for this price point this is the best there is. Very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend!
Perfect for errands and everyday adventures!

October 6, 2024I LOVE my Abound! I've gotten so many compliments on it and have hauled everything from library books, Christmas presents, and my dog. My only caution is the weight- which is either a perk or a hindrance depending on how you plan to primarily use your bike.
This bike is HEAVY. Its a whopping 81lbs (without accessories or cargo), but I feel it is a perfectly reasonable trade off for all of its hauling capacity (400+lbs), though this does make it extra hard to park in my city with very few bike racks.
So, if you want THE bike to completely replace your car for everyday use in town, whether with kids or groceries in tow, this bike is for you. If you want a commuter bike, want to regularly bike very long distances, and/or only plan to utilize the cargo space occasionally, you may want a different bike, just to save you the extra work with all that weight. But all in all, I think cargo bikes (and this bike in particular) are incredible and more people should consider them over a car!
