Inversable Resue of Colors
Scott P.· Review provided by cotopaxi.com · May 3, 2024
I was unable to tell through the website that the black colored jacket I ordered was an inside-out or inverted variety of the black jacket with blue and green stripes on the inside. I had seen the black jacket with blue and green stripes in a store and then opted for what I thought was the all-black jacket through the website, not aware that the blue and green stripes were on the inside. It is no impact on the function, but when spending at this price point, I did not end up with exactly what I wanted which I could have elsewhere. The coat is not designed to be reversible. Other than this preference, the coat is light, able to be packed into its own pocket and zipped up, and provides warmth and comfort. I did like the design of this jacket model by which there are lightly conforming elastic bands on the wrist to keep outside air from coming in up the sleeves as well as adjustable elastic waist lines to conform the jacket to the body to prevent outside air from entering from the bottom. The hood does not have adjustments, but it is designed to go past the top of a common forehead down to just above the eyes, providing more head coverage from above.
Extremely comfy, light and warm!

I honestly purchased this on a lark - I wanted a colourful down hooded jacket for a winter and this happened to be on sale. After about a month of constant usage, I can safely say it's exceeded expectations.
It's very light, packable, distinctive and is the kind of hoodie that wouldn't look out of place on a hiking trail, on a dinner date, at the opera, at a game, or whilst shopping at Oxford Street or Mayfair!
I've worn only a tee shirt and this jacket and stepped out at -2/-3C and it's been just fine. In short, it appears this down can protect up to --5C even though this jacket doesn't come with a temperature range.
It's also functional from zipped pockets, inside pockets and an inside pouch. So, grab it on when you're travelling - there's enough space to store your passport, wallet, etc. Great for the aeroplane, but also great when you land and ready to hit the street. It's moisture wicking abilities means even for blokes like me that sweat, it doesn't smell too much.
Great, but be careful.

Love wearing this jacket, excellent colors and gets plenty of compliments. I've actually liked it so much that I've gotten two but have had a couple of issues with them. The first is that one jacket loses quite a bit of down by seeping through the fabric, but the other doesn't have this issue. This along with other reviews here tells me it's a quality control issue. The second is that I have had to wash one of the jackets twice due to spilling drinks on it, I was careful to read the directions and washed it according to the directions (dry with tennis balls to restore fluff). The first time I washed it I didn't have tennis balls so I used my wool dryer balls, worked great and came out like new. The second time (about 4 months later) I had to wash it, this time I did have tennis balls on hand so I used those instead of my wool balls, but what ended up happening was that the tennis balls were heavy and got stuck in the sleeves of the jacket near the wrists. This ended up causing the down to bunch in odd areas, leaving patches of the coat with no insulation. This happened late this past spring so I haven't had much time to wear it but I'm assuming it won't keep me as warm now, which is unfortunate because it's already a pretty light jacket. The directions warn to wash sparingly but only getting 2 washes before having issues seems unreasonable, especially due to the recommended tennis ball method. Would be nice if this is covered by a repair/replace program, which I haven't checked out yet. Overall awesome looking jacket but delicate for sure :(
This is My Coat Now

I overhead a sales woman tell a customer that she never saw anyone return that coat in 15 years of working at REI. He was unconvinced, but I asked what made it so good. She said that it had an 800 fill count. I told her that I did not know what 800 thread count meant, and I asked her what the scale went up to. She said the most she ever saw --again in her 15 years of REI-- was 850. She then added that she would get it, and then she did the finger rub thing that my grandmother used to do when something was expensive. I asked what else was good about it, and she said it was super packable. I said that I would not be going anywhere I needed an 800 fill count jacket (because I knew what that was then). She said it breathed well and was comfortable. That lady was an angel. It is the best coat I ever bought.
