January 16, 2024I am a woman in my early 70s and haven't ridden a bicycle since the 1990s. So it was a challenge to start again AND learn to ride an ebike--in this case, a Soltera.2. I knew Aventon was different from the moment I unboxed the bike, and found that an absolute minimum of plastic in the packaging. In fact, the clever cardboard and twine packing looked like it had been designed by origami artists! There were even instructions on how to turn the cardboard into a chair!
For someone who has never assembled a bicycle, the instructions were mostly easy and clear to understand, with several caveats: 1) The text was TEENY. Even with my glasses on, it was difficult to read; 2) I think that the video could've been shot from better angles - especially for installing the front wheel, and installing the rear wheel protection guard; 3) removing the plastic motor protector was quite difficult, considering that one has to bend/break it off and then pick out the pieces stuck inside the freewheel with pliers. There's gotta be a better way.
Once I got the bike put together, everything else was easy, from installing and charging the battery, to making final adjustments and then riding off into the sunset . . . Well, I did have to take some time to practice, and familiarize myself with ebike riding. I still have to tilt this "step-through" model to get on the bike, even though it is the smaller size. I also had to get used to its 46 lb weight. I live on a fairly steep hill, and while the Soltera.2 is not considered a particularly high-powered bike, it did just fine. I wanted the bike for the exercise, anyway. From the four pedal assist choices, I had to switch to turbo about halfway up the steepest hill, and throttled the last few yards to get over the top.
On flatter roads, I keep pedal assist off, or use eco, which gives me just enough--but not too much--of a boost. The mechanical brakes work just as well on hills as on level or hilly roads. The torque sensor's boost feels a little odd, but I'm getting used to it; same with the 7-speed "twist" gears (which could use a slightly bigger window to make the gear speeds more visible).
Overall, this ebike is easy to maneuver, and I like the feel of it as I ride. I'm very happy to pedal off into the sunset--and the sunrise and whatever the day brings--on my Aventon Soltera.2.
Great Urban City Bike, Pedestrian Commuter bike + MY Recommendation

February 1, 2024Assembly with this bike was straightforward because there was a QR code to a video, a manual, and the bike came with its tools making the assembly easy. This was really great.
Get ready to feel bumps! No matter how small or big a crack in the road is, you will feel it because there is no suspension on this bike.
I do not recommend going off-roading or on uneven terrain such as grass or dirt because of the lack of suspension and the tires being too thin for my liking. I recommend riding on smooth roads as much as you can for the best experience.
I've noticed a difference between the fastest and lowest speed, so to save battery I keep my setting on the lowest speed. This saves quite some battery throughout the day.
The assist is just that, an assist. On this particular bike, you will still have to use manpower to propel you forward. The assist helps you go faster on straightaways and work less going up hills (in my experience).
Features: brake lights on both sides of the back tire, so every time you brake they turn on; it includes turn signals, a bell, and a not-so-bright front light. The tires have a reflective strip adding to its looks and safety.
This bike gets me from point A to B a lot quicker than walking, and I'd recommend this for somebody who travels far or enjoys beach cruises. For this price range, it depends on what you will use this bike for specifically, so I also suggest looking at the bike information such as torque, weight, etc.
Happy Biking

October 7, 2024My first e-bike purchase was a Sinch.2, and although I enjoyed it, it felt less bike to me and more like a machine driving me around. Not bad, but I wanted a bike first with the added bonus of electric assist to help me up the many hills in my city.
The Soltera.2 was exactly what I was looking for. It's light, has great handling for the growing network of bike lanes in my city, and has good enough assist to help me up hills. I find it a bonus I can turn off the electronic assist and ride this like a regular bike, something I couldn't do on the much heavier Sinch.2 without incredible effort. I also prefer the more traditional twist gear shifting on this bike compared to the push button gear changing on the Sinch.2. I recommend this bike to anyone looking for a great traditional cycling experience with the added benefit of electric assist.
This bike isn't the most powerful and even on hills you still need to contribute some pedal power, but this is the experience I expected from a bike. The only time I wish this bike has more power is on windy/gusty days. Even with the e-assist, you'll be putting in quite a bit of manpower if you're fighting against the wind and you'll see the battery drain a lot faster in these conditions. My partner zips right along despite the wind with his Sinch.2 and it's more powerful motor.
Satisfied with my Soltera.2

June 11, 2024I am so excited about my Soltera.2. I wanted to check out the battery range last weekend, but apparently i am a bad judge of distance. i ended up doing an 11 mile ride, out a country road, down to a river trail, a couple miles along the trail, then a few miles through another town, then back home via back roads with rolling hills. The bottom line is, i had to put a little effort into pedaling, as i never took it out of ECON mode. But hills that would normally have been intimidating and a challenge were pretty easy. i was even fighting a pretty stiff headwind at times. Now the important part... I am 165 pounds, and after that 11 mile ride, i still have 88% battery. That may not be completely indicitive of the range since it did not come off 100% until about mile 5. But i think i am pleased so far. The bike feels comfortable to ride and i like riding it. They only thing that bothers me is the weight. Even without the battery, it is a lot heavier than my manual road bike. I guess that should not completely surprise me. There are bikes that are lighter, but not at this price point, with these features. I recommend this bike.
