Premier Retro Velvet Yarn
Genny H.· Review provided by marymaxim.com · September 16, 2023
I used the Premier Retro Velvet Yarn along with two strands of worsted to make borders on a sweater I was knitting. It looked nice when I finished knitting it but I wanted to wash it to smooth out the seams. The label on the velvet said it was machine washable so I machine washed it. The velvet yarn pulled out in long (3-4 inches) loops that twisted into fringe like extensions. I tried to pull the yarn back into the original stitch position but it was impossible. I finally decided to pull the loops through other stitches until nothing was hanging down. I suppose the solution is to not machine wash items with the velvet yarn or just don't put them through the spin cycle. It also might work using the velvet yarn alone without the other strands. I like the look and feel of the yarn. I have quite a bit of the yarn on hand. I just have to decide on a project for it.
The softest, plushest yarn

This is one of the nicest yarns I have ever used. While is labeled as velvet, it might be closer to the type of chenille yarn that amigurumi crafters use. That isn't a bad thing! I could honestly crochet with just this yarn forever it was such a pleasure to work with. While it is not dissimilar to Bernat Velvet, BV is a bit more silky, less plush, and is also a thinner yarn.

Because it is bigger than some Bulky/Chunky weight yarns, it works up very quick and smooth. I was able to make both a scarf and a headband in no time.

Overall, 10/10 yarn. Worth the wait for shipping (mine arrived early).
Better than expected

Making a oversized slouchy sweater for cozy season. I thought that there'd be fall out of the fluff. Or the color wouldn't be what I expected. Happy to report ZERO fluff fall out, the color is amazing. These aren't super loose knits either. Using a 7 and 8 needle on this project . Overall VERY pleased. I ordered more in red and black for my teens sweater project.
Crocheting with Retro Velvet

I got this yarn in black, yellow, red, and white . The yellow , red, and white were great quality but the black had some quality control issues. The black noticeably sheds more than the other colors. Also the black had gaps of no velvet on the strand of yarn. because of this it was hard to work with. After I was done crocheting with the black velvet yarn little pieces of velvet covered my desk while little to no velvet of the other colors covered my desk. The yellow, red, and white were easy to work with and hardly shed. The amount of velvet on the yellow, red, and white strand was consistent and very soft.
